It was a kind of a hard decision to make whether the keytops are to be removed or remain since this celluloid material is no longer in production. However, the celluloid is weaker compared to today’s plastic. But the gradation color and its old fashioned look is nice, so we decide to keep this. In the picture, the left side is polished and the right side is as it was.

セルロイドの鍵盤上面は昔のピアノ特有の素材ですが、今日の素材に比べると弱く変色します。しかしこのレトロ感も良しとお客様と相談の上、今回は保証付きで残すことにしました。写真では左側が研磨後で右が研磨前です。

The balance hole adjustment was totally different from today’s pianos. A plate of beech wood is attached at the bottom of a key but this doesn’t appear on today’s pianos. It took a while to find out why the hole was so hard.

鍵盤の底面にブナ材が貼ってあるため、鍵盤調整にも少々苦労しました。現代のピアノにはない部品の一つです。

今日の外でのお仕事は公民館のピアノの調律。行ってみるとそこでは年配の方々が卓球の練習中。レクリエーションとは思えない入れ込みようで、「もっと前へ！」とか気合の入った掛け声が飛び交っていました。まあそれは平日の午前中のことでしたが、午後になると子供たちがやってきて、みんなでピアノを弾いて遊んでいるんですって。ぜひ聞いてみたいです。
